Discovery Channel is the most watched factual entertainment brand for men in Poland and Hungary. This is a key role in the Central Europe Channel Team, setting and executing a strategy for Discovery Channel and other factual brands (such as Discovery Science, Discovery Turbo Xtra) to achieve the business goals, including ratings, share targets and fulfilling the needs of Affiliate partners.
The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate vision to grow the portfolio and individual brands. They will show passion for the genre and for the content. They will understand the audience and demonstrate how to reach existing and new audiences. They will show business acumen and understand what is needed to deliver the goals of all stakeholders.
Experience of television, digital, building brands, delivering audience growth is essential.
Collaborative – that will be able to work with others at all levels and in a matrixed organization. Empowers a small team of programmers, consumer marketing and communications people, helping them deliver the business objectives and play a part in developing the future portfolio. Core function:
• To identify milestones for Discovery Channel and support brands and to be responsible for their delivery.
• To be accountable for Discovery Channel hitting its KPIs.
• To plan, manage and oversee all the day to day output for Discovery Channel and the factual portfolio.
• At all times to have a complete and holistic overview of the factual brands and activities.
Role and responsibility
• To be responsible for the overall performance and development of Discovery Channel and the factual brands – from meeting ratings targets to the brand becoming ingrained in popular culture and becoming highly valued by affiliate partners.
• To manage the day to day delivery and development of the factual brands to their optimum performance in partnership with the Head of Channels, the Lifestyle team, production team and the CEEMEA Channel team.
• Manage and develop a team of programming, marketing, PR, media planning, digital media specialists, ensuring they understand the goals and deliver to them
• Partner with the lifestyle and production teams and the CEEMEA corporate channel team to ensure the growth of the factual portfolio is aligned to a CEEMEA strategy and is not at the expense of the Lifestyle portfolio.
• Manage the budget for channel operations for Discovery Channel and the factual portfolio and report progress to the Head of Channels and Country Manager
• Co-ordinate all elements of the factual portfolio offer such that the brands are clear, compelling and consistent.
• Produce a focused 12 month plan to grow the channels’ reach and ratings and communicate to the teams in Warsaw and London.
• Work with Programming and Research to fully understand the relationship between the channel and audience and how this can be optimized
• Work with the relevant teams to produce and deliver a coordinated, consistent marcomms strategy covering, advertising, on-air, press, digital, social media
Support the Brand Solutions team in securing sponsorship for Discovery Channel and other brands.
• Ensure that the target audience is considered at all times
• To serve as a guardian of the brand at all times
• To serve as Discovery Channel brand champion - sharing success and ambitions of the brand
• Able to present internally, to clients, at up fronts and events and to press
Measurable outputs
Develop and get agreement for a 12 month brand communications plan with primary input from SVP Channels CEEMEA, Head of Channels CEN and Country Manager CEN and other stakeholders from Research, Programming and Commercial teams.
Deliver a plan for transforming channels in the portfolio to deliver long-term growth.
Increase trial and ratings by around 15% year on year
